Louis Nowra

Melbourne, 1971. Lewis's new job is to rehearse a play with
patients in a mental institution
. One of them has already decided
on  Mozart’s opera  "Così  fan tutte"  for them to perform. They
 talk Lewis into translating it,
and some funny and very touching
 things happen... His student
friends, however, are disgusted with
him and his "loonies" doing old-fashioned love-and-fidelity stuff
nobody needs, when he should be at the big demonstration against
the Vietnam war to show his political commitment. But Lewis will
not let down his "mad" actors.
Eventually, some things go up in
smoke, some hearts are broken, and we learn a lesson about
madness inside institutions  - and outside!
