Diversity Day
Diversity as potential is a living guiding principle at the University of Duisburg-Essen. The UDE is characterised in a special way by the diversity of its students and staff and knows how to use the opportunities that arise from this. The UDE Diversity Awards are presented annually as part of the German Diversity Day. The outstanding commitment of UDE staff and students is recognised in four categories: teaching, research, commitment and leadership.
„Diversity Futures"11th German Diversity Day at UDE
On 23 May 2023, members of the UDE celebrated the 15th anniversary of the Prorectorate for University Culture, Diversity and International Affairs at the Essen Campus, in the Glass Pavilion (R12 S00 H12) from 10:00 - 16:00.
The University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) signed the "Diversity Charter" back in 2009 and has developed and implemented numerous diversity-related measures within the university together with internal cooperation partners for over a decade. There was a lively exchange in the panel discussion with former vice rectors, among others, as well as in the subsequent presentations on the topics of biodiversity and diversity futures at the UDE. In a World Café, participants were given the opportunity to shape the direction of our diversity strategy through in-depth discussions on four topics: a university critical of racism; internationalisation and diversity; biodiversity and LGBTIQ* visibility on campus.

On 26 May 2020, starting at 10:00 a.m., the Diversity Day at the UDE will take place online.
Among other things, you can expect video messages from the Vice-Rector for Social Responsibility, Diversity and Internationality Prof. Dr. Barbara Buchenau and the Equal Opportunities Officer Prof. Dr. Christine Heil, a guest contribution by the book author Franzi von Kempis ("Anleitung zum Widerspruch") and the presentation of the ten Diversity Award winners 2020.

For the 7th time, the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) will celebrate Diversity Day on Thursday, 06 June 2019 from 09:30 in the Glass Pavilion, Essen Campus.
The UDE Diversity Award will be presented in four categories: teaching, research, leadership and commitment. The focus of this year's event is on a much-noticed unique selling point of our university: the principle of diversity at UDE. The award honours the institution-wide commitment of UDE staff and students to diversity-related issues.
