Presentation on Gender Medicine

On 24 September 2010, a science night will take place at the University of Duisburg-Essen. Admission free!

At Kleines Hörsaalzentrum, S03 V00 E59, Essen Campus, the Essen College of Gender Studies will present different aspects of Gender Medicine in a series of short lectures, each of them followed by questions from the audience.

 

6 pm "When Pilates meets German Football League. Gender riddles in Health Education" Dr. Michaela Harmeier (Institute of Further Education, UDE) will speak about men and women in health education, their choices and actions, and the ways their health can be affected by these. 

7 pm "Of Rats and Men. The Risk of Cancer in Men and Women" PD Dr. Andrea Kindler-Röhrborn (Institute of Pathology, Universitätsklinikum Essen) will speak about different factors in sex and gender which influence the risk of cancer in men and women.

8 pm "Life after a Kidney Transplantation - at the age of 30" Social Scientist Helen Krieter (Essen College of Gender Studies) will speak about men and women coping with the consequences of kidney transplantations and the impact of gender constructions on lifestyle, coping strategies and recovery.

All lectures will be held in German.

9 pm Sketches by Loriot will be performed by the drama group "Germanistiktheater", University of Duisburg-Essen.
