Profil

The International Office is the central service office for international contacts of the University of Duisburg-Essen. We are located on both campuses, in Duisburg and Essen. This means that counselling can take place on each campus.

Our aim is to help foreign students, post-graduates and other applicants who are interested in our courses of studies. We especially advise them on matters of application and enrolment, and we are in charge of all matters concerning the admission of foreign students.
We also counsel those German students or foreign students with a German education who are interested in studying abroad or who are looking for international scholarships.
We are happy to help foreign scholars and the institutes inviting them to deal with bureaucratic obstacles and everyday problems.
We offer counselling and support to individual professors, research groups and departments by taking care of collaborations between universities, by establishing contacts with partner universities and with international projects.

The University of Duisburg-Essen has more than 30,000 students and is a major university in Germany. We have campuses in two large cities of the Rhine-Ruhr area. Despite the large number of students enrolled, we are not a mass university. It is quite easy to find your way around both campuses since all the buildings are located centrally and can be reached within a few minutes walk.
Currently, about 4,300 foreign students from more than 120 countries are enrolled.
With over 170 Erasmus partner universities in 25 countries and almost 20 per cent of international students, our university has achieved a high degree of internationalisation.

Consisting of 11 departments, the University of Duisburg-Essen offers a broad spectrum of academic disciplines. Our courses of studies and areas of research are located on the campuses like this:

  • In Duisburg, the stress is on the social and political sciences as well as on engineering and natural sciences.
  • In Essen, the stress is on the humanities, art and design as well as on the life sciences.
  • Mathematics, economics and departments of other fields of study are located on both campuses.
