Teaching Summer Semester 2015

Overview

We offer in the summer semester 2015 the following courses:

Lecture with exercise for Bachelor AI Programmieren mit C/C++

Lecturer:

Prof. Dr. Gregor Schiele (lecture)

Stephan Schmeißer (exercise)

Language: german
Turnus: Summer semester
Time: Wednesday 10:00 - 12:00 (lecture)
Tuesday 12:00 - 14:00 (exercise)
Place: LC 137 (Lecture)
LC 137 (exercise)
Begin:

15.04.2015

This bachelor course implements the learned basic concepts of previous semesters about methods of programming in the language C/C++. The content will be: C++ as an extension of C, concepts of pointers, classes, class hierarchies, simple and multiple inheritance, access protection mechanisms, virtual base classes, virtual functions, static and dynamic binding, typing and typ conversion, function and operator overloading, exepction handling, templates

Project Bachelors Project Embedded Systems in expressive Art

The Embedded Systems Group develops in cooperation with partners in Austria, Norway and South Africa an Internet of Things-System (IoT) for expressive art.

Project Goals: It is the Goal of this project to create intelligent stage requisites as well as connecting these to a three dimensional virtual world (on basis of a Minecraft server). This entails the planing and construction of several devices on the basis of the Arduino and Raspberry Pi plattforms, as well as its bi-directional intercommunication with each other and the Minecraft server with a self defined API.

Organisation and needed previous knowledge: dThe project will be devided into several subgroups, depending on the number of participants, where each subgroup will focus on a specific device. It is possible to reuse existing devices as well as develop own hardware, e.g. on the basis of the Arduino plattform, all depending on the specific knowledge of the participant. Knowledge about the development of hardware is not mandatory, participants should there not be scared to use the Arduino components. It will be programmed in a C++ dialect that is easy to learn. Fun on working on your own devices is an advantage but not mandatory.

You want to participate?

  • You have fun on working with Arduino based tinkering projects?
  • You are interessted in how intelligent devices can be created with modern SBC plattforms?
  • You want to contribute to an international project, which does not just deliver results "on paper", but has actual relevant goals "in the real world"?

Then you should apply to this project. The preliminary discussion for this Project will be on the second week of the lecture period, wednesday, 15.04.2015 at 12:00 to 13:30 in Room BC 303. If you have question please contact Prof. Gregor Schiele

The results of this project will be used in a public stage performance in Vienna in October.

Lecture with Exercise for Master AI/Master ISE Internet of Things: Protocols and System Software

Lecturer:

Prof. Dr. Gregor Schiele (lecture)

Alwyn Burger (exercise)

Language: english
Turnus: Summer semester
Time: Tuesday 16:00 - 18:00 (lecture)
Wednesday 14:00 - 16:00 (exercise)
Place: LE 120 (Lecture)
LE 120 (exercise)
Begin:

14.04.2015

This masters lecture will introduce the research area of the "Internet of Things" (IoT), where billions of embedded systems (actuator, sensors) make continously data in real time to about the real world available to the Internet. Topics, that will be covered are:

Hardware plattforms (e.g. SBCs, Sensor nodes), communication protocols (e.g. IEEE 802.15.4, 6LoWPAN, CoAP, MQTT), data modelling (e.g. linked data, RDF, SSN), data management and access (e.g. SPARQL, continous queries with CQELS, "Big Data"), system software and software plattforms (e.g. Eclipse Ponte, Xively, BASE, PCOM), future work ("programmable world"). An exercise will complement the theoretical knowledge with practical task of programming IoT-Systems, e.g. with Arduinos or Raspberry Pis.

Seminar in Master AI / Masters ISE Seminar Embedded Systems in Computer Science

Lecturer:

Prof. Dr. Gregor Schiele and Team

Language: german/english
Turnus: Summer semester
Time: Tuesday, 14.04.2015, 14:00 - 16:00 (preliminary discussion)
Place: BC 103 (preliminary discussion)
Begin:

14.04.2015

The masters seminar will be about current topics of the research area of embedded systems with regards to the Internet of Things, Cyber-Physical systems as well as adaptive and intelligent embedded systems. More details on the specific topics will be announced.
