Executive Director of IN-EAST at the University of Duisburg-Essen since 1997.
Trained as economist (University of Hohenheim, Free University of Berlin), I made my first experience in Japan with a scholarship of the Japanese Ministry of Education and the German Academic Exchange Service. I have worked at several research institutes and universities in Germany and Japan (Free University of Berlin 1982-84) Science Center Berlin (1987), German Institute for Japanese Studies Tokyo (1989-1994), Hagen University (1994-1997) before joining the University of Duisburg-Essen. As visiting research fellow I carried out research at the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Tokyo (1984-86, 1988). I was invited as visiting professor at Nagoya University (2001-2002, 2014).
