Aim

In the context of the DFG Priority Program SPP1980 ‘Nanoparticle synthesis in spray flame SpraySyn: measurement, simulation and processes’, a research assistant is sought to utilise our existing tomographic capabilities for characterisation of the standard spray flame, by reconstructing the 3D flame shape and refractive index fields based on single-colour, multi-colour and background-oriented schlieren (BOS) measurements.

    NETZ building at the Duisburg campus
  • Option to gain external experience though our strong links to national and international research groups

Brief outline of the tasks

  • Familiarisation with our in-house reconstruction and camera calibration codes (Fortran, C, Cuda and GPU)
  • Algorithmic developments and phantom studies, using 3D fields
  • Experimental setup, measurements, data post-processing and analysis
  • Publication of results in peer-reviewed journals and presentation in international conferences
  • Contribution to at least one funding application for continuation of the tomographic work

Required profile

  • At least a masters in Engineering, computer sciences or related fields
  • Experience in programming and numerical work
  • Very good mathematical and analytical skills
  • Excellent command of the English language (German will be an advantage)
  • Organised, motivated, work with precision and team player
