Nanoparticles and Proton Therapy for Cancer Treatment

Workshop Date: January 26, 2023, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Venu: Online

Organizer: SYNGOPRO Consortium

Aim and Scope

The NanoPorT Workshop brings together scientific professionals from the fields of nanoparticles in biomedical applications, proton therapy and cancer treatment to highlight recent outcomes of the field and the SYNGOPRO project. It sets the stage for keynote lectures, networking opportunities and discussions about possibilities, challenges and future perspectives of the field among a targeted audience.

The event is planned as an online event, with only virtual components. The SYNGOPRO consortium is committed to keeping attendees safe from COVID-19.

Invited Speaker

Prof. Dr. George Iliakis, Experimental Radiation Biology, University Hospital Essen
Prof. Dr. Inge Herrmann, Nanoparticle Systems Engineering Laboratory, ETH-Zürich
Prof. Dr. Oliver Jäkel, Medical Physics in Radiotherapy, German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), Heidelberg

General Information

Dear colleagues and friends,

It is a pleasure to invite you to the SYNGOPRO Workshop on Nanoparticles and Proton Therapy for Cancer Treatment (NanoPorT)!

After a successful 3-year period of the SYNGOPRO consortium, we look forward to discuss recent advancements at the interface of nanoparticles in biomedical research, proton therapy and cancer treatment. Registration  is now open. We are looking forward to outstanding keynote lectures, lively discussions, poster presentations, and a get together of an interdisciplinary scientific community to exchange ideas, experiences and knowledge.

Due to the uncertainties of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the workshop will be held virtually on January 26, 2023, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. The workshop language will be English, and we also invite international researchers to attend the workshop and to present their most recent results in a talk or during our poster session.

We look forward to meet you in 2023!

The SYNGOPRO Consortium

SYNGOPRO: Synergistic effects of gold nanoparticles and proton radiation in the treatment of childhood brain tumors

The SYNGOPRO consortium aims to apply synergistic effects of gold nanoparticles and proton radiation in the treatment of childhood brain tumors. This will be preclinically optimized until clinical validation is developed. Successful establishment of this combinatorial therapeutic approach (state-of-the-art proton therapy + gold nanoparticles) may contribute to a significant increase in the effectiveness of proton therapy. Consequently, shorter irradiation times will result, which will allow a larger number of children with cancer to have access to this life-saving therapy.

This project was funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)/ Dieses Vorhaben wurde aus Mitteln des Europäischen Fonds für regionale Entwicklung (EFRE) gefördert.
