The Arts Festival is the first step in the College’s cooperation with the arts and the fine arts. However, our main academic emphases (technical, natural, and medical sciences) are also involved. In fact, the Arts Festival marks a synesthetic and interdisciplinary convention of the arts and sciences. Thus it allows e.g. the visual arts, music, and technological developments to be juxtaposed and subjected to academic analysis.

Also, the lives and works of forgotten women artists are presented to the public. At the first Arts Festival in June 2002, music composed by Fanny Hensel-Mendelssohn was played. This was accompanied by a musicologist’s assessment of why this important 19th century artist sunk into oblivion. The Arts Festival also gives young women in the arts an oppotunity to present their work to a sophisticated public.
