Venue

Duisburg is a city in the western part of the Ruhr Area in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is one of Germany’s most water-abundant cities. Numerous lakes, canals and ports dominate the landscape of the city. With the world’s biggest inland harbor and its proximity to Düsseldorf Airport, Duisburg has become an important venue for commerce and steel production as well as for recreational activities. Visitors of the city enjoy the exciting flair of the Ruhrgebiet with the relaxed atmosphere of the Lower Rhine area.

SpinS-2019 workshop will take place at the Wolfsburg Catholic Academy. The building is located near to the river Ruhr – in the middle of one of the most densely populated metropolitan areas of Europe – within a large forest located between the cities of Duisburg and Mülheim an der Ruhr. In 1906 constructed, the building served as an exclusive hotel. The name (“wolfs castle“) reflects the existence of wolfs in the surrounding forests till the beginning of the 19th century. Since 1960 it serves as a modern venue for workshops and seminars within walking distance of the campus of the university of Duisburg-Essen.

Accommodation

The accommodation for every registered participant will be taken care by organizers. Two-night stay 2-4 October in the hotel at Wolfsburg Catholic Academy and full-day meals (breakfast/lunch/dinner + coffee breaks + Gala dinner) are covered by the registration fee 200€.

Transportation

Address of Wolfsburg Catholic Academy is Falkenweg 6, 45478 Mülheim an der Ruhr. Arrival by plane: Duisburg/Mülheim an der Ruhr is most easily reached by flying to Düsseldorf airport (DUS) and then 20-30 minutes by train/taxi. Another option can be Dortmund airport (DTM) located in 70 km or Frankfurt airport (FRA) and high speed train (ICE) to “Duisburg Hauptbahnhof” station. Arrival by train: Main Railway station “Duisburg Hauptbahnhof” (www.bahn.de), Tram 901 in the direction “Mülheim an der Ruhr” (tram stop Monning).
