Multiple stressor effects at the molecular level
Anthropogenic activities degrade ecosystems around the world at unprecedented rates: species become extinct before we know that they existed, and ecosystems collapse before we can implement effective environmental protection measurements.
In my research, I integrate state-of-the-art molecular and bioinformatic methods in the framework of innovative study designs to investigate the impact of global change on aquatic systems. I work with all kinds of relevant stressors for aquatic systems, including chemicals such as pesticides and salts, as well as physical stressors like reduced discharge, fine sediment deposition or increased temperatures.
To investigate the impact of these stressors on aquatic organisms, I use (functional) genomics, which allow us to study stressor induced molecular mechansims at ecological and evolutionary scales.
