Research Details
The DFG project "EliA - Parenthood in the Adoption Process" addresses the question of how adoption processes are developed jointly between adoption mediators and applicants. How are suitable parents found for adoptive children?
Research Topic
How are suitable parents found for adoptive children? That is the question addressed by our research project “EliA – Parenthood in the Adoption Process.” The project is a collaboration between TU Dortmund University and the University of Duisburg-Essen. We are investigating how the adoption process is shaped jointly by adoption mediators and adoption applicants. We are interested in the everyday work of adoption professionals as well as applicants' perspectives on the adoption process.
Research Approach
We will examine the entire adoption process: from the initial personal interviews between professionals and applicants to the possible placement of a child with adoptive parents or termination of the process. Our research teams will conduct interviews with adoption mediators as well as adoption applicants. These interviews will take place at regular intervals during the adoption process.
