The College is a joint project of the UDE with the Westphalian University of Applied Sciences and Arts and the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts, funded by the Mercator Foundation. In a college structure that is unique in Germany, the three locations develop and pilot needs-oriented offers for non-traditional students and thereby contribute to an increase in educational participation and success.

The TalentKolleg Ruhr UDE is aimed in particular at four target groups with special orientation and qualification needs:

• School graduates from non-academic families
• Foreign academics
• Prospective students without an Abitur
• Study returnees
