Prof. Dr. Ute Klammer, economist and social scientist, is Professor of Sociology and Executive Director of the Institute for Work, Skills and Training (IAQ) at the University of Duisburg-Essen and project leader of the MERCUR-project MIKOSS. From 2008-2015 she was vice rector of Diversity Management and International Affairs at the University of Duisburg-Essen.
Ute Klammer's focus of research and publications includes labor market and social policy, European social policy and gender research. In the field of migration studies, she headed a research project at the IAQ regarding the post-qualification of immigrant academics (Nachquali) and is responsible for the BMAS-funded junior research group "migration and social policy" (MigSoz).
Furthermore, Ute Klammer chaired the German family ministry’s first expert commission on gender equality (2008 – 2012) and was a member of the German government’s council for sustainable development (RNE) as well as several other expert commissions. In 2016 she was appointed as a member of the Social Advisory Council (Sozialbeirat), the oldest advisory body to the legislative bodies and the Federal Government in Germany. Since its founding in 2014, she has been as member of the board of the “Forschungsinstitut für gesellschaftliche Weiterentwicklung” (Research Institute for societal development, FGW) in Düsseldorf (until 2020)

Dr. Thorsten Schlee heads the research group on Migration and Social Policy at the Institute for Work, Skills and Training (IAQ) at the University of Duisburg-Essen.
After his studies in political science and history, he worked, researched and taught as a pedagogical assistant with young adults in the transition from school to work.
In addition, he worked as a research assistant at the University of Duisburg-Essen, at the University of Applied Sciences Düsseldorf and at the Cologne University of Technology. In his dissertation he dealt with issues of political and scientific-theoretical representation. He also conducted research in projects on the socio-spatial coordination of social services and on networking strategies in the transition from school to work.
In his current project, he is investigating how migration and socio-political actors at the local level shape refugee policies and how local social policies affect refugees.

Ariana Kellmer holds a diploma in social science and has studied sociology at University of Duisburg-Essen, focusing on empirical social research. She started out at the Center for Higher Education Quality Development and has been working at the Institute of Sociology at the University of Duisburg-Essen since 2012. In May 2020 she also joined the MIKOSS project as a research assistant at the Institute for Work, Skills and Training (IAQ).  Her research interests include the sociology of migration and inequality and she is currently writing her dissertation on promotion biographies of South-North migrants.

Jun. Prof. Dr. Karolina Barglowski teaches and conducts research as junior professor for Sociology of Migration at the Technical University Dortmund. Her research focuses on transnationalization, social protection, cultural sociology, family research and social inequality. Previously, she worked at the Universities of Bielefeld and Duisburg-Essen, at the University of California in Berkeley, and at the Max Planck Institute for the research of multi-religious and multi-ethnic communities.
Her work has appeared in a number of peer-reviewed international journals and publishing houses, such as Population, Space and Place, Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies, Social Identities, and Comparative Migration Studies. She is also the author of "Cultures of Transnationality in European Migration.  Subjectivity, Family and Inequality" (2019; Routledge) and co-editor of the special issues "Gendered Dynamics of Transnational Social Protection" (2019, in cooperation with Basak Bilecen, Thomas Faist and Eleonore Kofman) and "Transnational social protection: Migrants' strategies and patterns of inequalities" (2015, in cooperation with Thomas Faist, Basak Bilecen and Joanna Jadwiga Sienkiewicz).

Eva Günzel works as a research assistant at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Ruhr University Bochum. She studies a master's programme in Social Science that focuses on globalization, transnationalization and governance. In her master's thesis she is researching the role of non-governmental organizations in the European refugee regime using the example of the Spanish region of Andalusia. In addition, she is involved in municipal refugee aid and worked in projects for international students and refugees at the International Office of the Ruhr-Universität.

Prof. Dr. Sören Petermann is Professor of Sociology / Urban and Regional Studies and board member of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Regional Research (ZEFIR) at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Ruhr-University Bochum. In his research he focuses on the effects of socio-spatial context conditions on social coexistence, in particular well-being, personal networks, social capital and mobility.

Prof. Dr. Ludger Pries is Professor of Sociology at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Ruhr University Bochum. His main research and teaching areas include Sociology of work, organizations and migration in a comparative perspective, transnationalism and globalization research. From 2011 to 2015 he was a member and deputy chairman of the Council of Experts of German Foundations for Migration and Integration. From 2015 to 2017 he held the Wilhelm and Alexander von Humboldt Chair at El Colegio de México in Mexico City. Besides, he has conducted several extensive research projects on migrant organizations.
