Research Group Analysis of Partial Differential Equations

Welcome to the website of the Research Group Analyis of Partial Differential Equations at the faculty for mathematics of University Duisburg-Essen!

In natural sciences, the rate of change y' of an observed variable y is often proportional to y itself. This leads to differential equations. In the case of partial differential equations one considers balances between different partial derivatives. For example one obtains from simple models of chemical reactions a balance between the change of concentration of one or several substances, possible diffusion of the substances as well as nonlinear source terms depending among other things on the concentration(s) as well as the reaction kinetic.

Partial differential equations have various applications in physics, chemistry, biology, economics, finance etc.
