Welcome to the Centre for Semiconductor Technology and Optoelectronics (ZHO)
High-Tech Chip Technology research … on UDE's campus Duisburg-Lotharstrasse
The Center for Semiconductor Technology and Optoelectronics (ZHO) researches semiconductor structures, chip technology, and assembly and module technology for the following terahertz frequency applications:
- Material-specific sensors – non-contact material detection
- Terahertz radar – high-resolution localization with micrometer accuracy
- Broadband communication – wireless transmission of terabits per second
Semiconductor materials and functional chips with nanometer precision are produced in the cleanroom (right side of the building). The chips are integrated into modules and packages, and their functionality is validated using specialized measurement techniques.
Current applications of ZHO technologies:
- Tunnel diodes and THz transistors, among others, for radar sensors are researched in department BHE: www.uni-due.de/bhe/index_en
- Broadband terahertz communication and optoelectronics in department OE: www.uni-due.de/oe/en/
UDE's QuantumSchoolLab is located in ZHO's building on the 2nd floor
