Beginning of Program:

The regular beginning of the program is annually in October (winter semester). Admission for the Master program is also possible for summer semester (April).

 

Program Duration:

The curriculum of ISE is designed as a consecutive bachelor master program with duration for the:

  • Bachelor program: 3 years, 6 semesters
  • Master program: 2 years, 4 semesters

 

Semester:

The academic year is divided in two semesters:

  • Winter semester: from October to March
  • Summer semester: from April to September

 

Lecture Period:

In winter term the lectures usually start in mid. of October and end in mid of February. The summer term lectures start usually in mid. of April and finish in the end of July.

During the winter semester will be a break of two weeks for Christmas and New Year holidays.

 

Examination Period:

The examination period always starts 1 week after the lecture period ends and last for approx. 5 weeks.

 

Language of Instruction:

The language of instruction is half German and half English. This means that approx. 50% of the courses are taught in German and the other 50% are taught in English. The language of the examination is the same as the language of instruction in the corresponding lecture.

 

Semester Abroad:

It is obligatory for German students to stay abroad for a period of 3 to 6 months.
During this time the students can:

  • participate in lectures at an university and earn credits by passing the examinations, or
  • work on their final thesis, or
  • do their industrial internship at a company to serve the obligatory professional practical training.

 

Industrial Internship

An industrial internship in a company is compulsory for all Bachelor-Students. The internship is divides in

  • 9 weeks to be finished before the studies, and
  • 6 week to be done during the studies.

The whole 15 weeks of industrial internship have to be finished before starting the final thesis.

In the master degree courses an industrial internship is optional.

 

Fees:

Tuition Fees: EUR 480.- per semester

All students are required to pay a social contribution of about EUR 200.- per semester, in addition to the tuition fee. The social contribution includes a semester ticket covering public transport in the Rhein-Ruhr area, subsidized meals in the canteen of the university and other services.

 

Costs of Living:

We recommend budgeting around EUR 585.- per month for personal expenses.
