Biographical Information

Florian Deckers studied German Studies, American Studies, and Literature and Media Practice at the University of Duisburg-Essen. In 2018, he completed the combined M.A. program; in his thesis he analyzed automobile advertising and its re-construction as well as commodification of national images in the U.S. and Germany. As part of the graduate research group Scripts for Post-Industrial Urban Futures: American Models, Transatlantic Interventions, his dissertation project investigates contemporary approaches of LatinX artists and activists in New York City and Los Angeles. These artists re-write a vision of American society in music, art, and literature, claiming the fastest growing minority’s right to the city.
