Biographical Information

A native of Aberdeenshire in Scotland's Northeast, Stuart is now living in his tenth country in as many years. While he only moved to the Ruhrgebiet in the spring of 2018, he has fond memories of visiting the Christmas markets in Düsseldorf while attending secondary school in the Netherlands. His year abroad at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia (Go Quakers!) was the best of his life so far, although he is open to that record being broken.

He previously taught English at the International House family of language schools in Ukraine, Portugal and Slovakia, before gaining his first experience of university teaching in Brazil. He is keen to enhance his ability to use technology to support the student learning experience in and outside the classroom, and, as a qualified journalist, he particularly enjoys teaching writing.

A proud enthusiast of Scotland's national instrument, Stuart has played the bagpipes with pipe bands in Scotland, the Netherlands and Austria, and writes for the Glasgow-based National Piping Centre's magazine, Piping Today. He also loves military history, taking too many photographs, and adopting better sports teams than his national football side.

He has a Bachelor's degree in International Relations from the University of St Andrews, an MA in Multimedia Journalism from Glasgow Caledonian University, and an MSc in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from the University of Stirling.
