Dr. Joel Guttke awarded with UDE Postdoc Seed Funding to investigate primary EFL teachers’ professional competence

The UDE has announced the recipients of the 40th round of its Postdoc Seed Funding. The committee selected four postdocs who will each receive a research grant of up to €30,000 to help them secure future third-party funding.
Dr. Joel Guttke from the Faculty of Humanities (Anglophone Studies / EFL Education) received €23,400 for his project “VidLit: Videobasierte Items zur Erfassung des fachdidaktischen Professionswissens über Literarisches Lernen im Englischunterricht der Primarstufe” [Video-based assessment of primary EFL teachers’ pedagogical content knowledge in Literary Learning] focusing on EFL education at primary level. He will develop video-based test items to assess primary EFL teachers’ professional competence. The project aims to explore primary EFL teachers’ professional competence at different stages of their teacher career and seeks to discuss the implications for teacher education amidst the current teacher shortage.
