A monodisperse model for hetero-aggregate formation in mixing aerosol streams

Our team’s latest paper presents a new population balance equation (PBE) model (the hetero-monodisperse model) for efficiently describing hetero-aggregate formation and growth from multiple particle streams. The model captures key mechanisms, including nucleation, coagulation, condensation, and solidification, while achieving accuracy comparable to that of a two-dimensional nodal model. At the same time, it reduces the computational cost by three to four orders of magnitude, making it particularly attractive for coupling with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to simulate hetero-aggregate dynamics in complex three-dimensional systems.
