An Efficient Monte Carlo Model for Predicting Hetero-Aggregate Formation in Aerosol Streams: From Free Molecular to Continuum Regimes

At IAC 2026, our team presented a new weighted Monte Carlo model for efficiently describing hetero-aggregate formation and growth from multiple particle streams. The model accounts for key mechanisms, including nucleation, coagulation, and condensation, and its predictions were validated against experimental data and a two-dimensional nodal model. The results demonstrate comparable accuracy with reasonable computational effort, while the use of a fixed time step makes the method particularly suitable for coupling with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to simulate hetero-aggregate dynamics in complex systems.
