Master thesis at IWW Mülheim

An MSc thesis topic is available in the area of microbial diagnostics. The project is performed at the Water Research Center IWW (located in Mülheim an der Ruhr), which closely collaborates with the Biofilm Centre of the University of Duisburg-Essen. The work is in collaboration with an industrial partner and aims to develop new diagnostic technologies to quantitatively assess the efficiency of UV-based water treatment. UV is known to be an effective disinfectant due to its strong germicidal ability with proven efficiency to inactivate bacteria, viruses and protozoa. Diagnostic methods applied in this project comprise PCR-based technologies combined with different sample pretreatment steps. This molecular approach to quantify the extent of UV-induced DNA damage is supplemented by traditional cultivation of bacteria to measure inactivation of cell replication. The earliest project start date is early 2016.
