LXIII. Call for Applications

It is our pleasure to announce the LXIII. SRA Transformation funding innitiative. All members of the Strategic Research Area "Transformation of Contemporary Societies" (SRA Transformation) may apply and we look forward to receiving proposals.

What are the criteria?

SRA Transformation supports projects and collaborative initiatives that contribute to its research program, projects that focus on the transformation of social order in contexts of shifting and redefining national borders. Please consider the thematic focal points within the program: “Cross-border Labor Markets,” “The Transformation of Risk and Welfare,” “Global and Transnational Governance,” and “International Migration.” Other research topics that fit within the SRA Transformation research program that relate to “Digital Transformation” are also highly welcome.

Who can apply?

Interdisciplinary initiatives and projects involving members of the UDE across departments and faculties project initiatives in collaboration with partners outside the UDE, particularly those within the Ruhr University Alliance, are also encouraged and may be funded.

What is the deadline?

Please hand in your application by August 31, 2026 at psp_wandel@uni-due.de.

Funding Line 1 supports formats concerning research and discovery, with the aim of securing further funding for a collaborative project.

Various formats are conceivable, provided they bring together researchers from the UDE to address cross-institutional and cross-faculty topics, such as (but not only) developmental workshops.

Overall, this Funding Line 1 is intended for initiators who have a great concept but are not sure whether a larger project could be realized at the UDE.

Funding Line 2 is intended for application teams consisting (primarily) of UDE researchers who have a well-developed project idea for a substantial collaborative project but require support or other activities related to preparing the application.

The nature of the requested support is not specified, but must be justified in terms of content.

SRA Transformation will not be responsible for the management and administration of any personnel measures.

Funding Line 3 is aimed at researchers at the beginning of their research careers, i.e., advanced doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers at the UDE.

Various forms of collaboration — e.g., workshops, publications, or science slams — are eligible for funding within their respective institutional contexts, provided they further a collaborative project in the medium-term, potentially leading to a grant application.

FAQ Ideas & Development

When applying for thematic development workshops, applicants are asked to provide a description of the content and an assessment of why the topic is suitable for interdisciplinary collaboration within the framework of the SRA Transformation, as well as specific proposals for participants in the planned workshop.

Projects that do not aim to secure larger external funding may only be funded under Funding Line 3; interim funding for positions in ongoing projects are not permitted.

FAQ Senior Researchers

Applications for the preparation of collaborative proposals should include information about the participating researchers as well as any preliminary work they may have conducted together. It must be evident that the application team has already addressed the organizational and strategic details of the planned third-party funding application; the intended funding source and the funding format (e.g., the DFG Research Group Program), as well as the planned funding amount and the anticipated submission deadline, should be clearly identified. For assistance with these matters, please contact the UDE's Science Support Centre (SSC).

FAQ Junior Researchers

Early-career researchers are generally eligible to apply for all funding programs. PhD candidates in the advanced stages of their studies and Postdocs are encouraged to apply.
