Research focus in the field of extrusion

The research field of extrusion deals with all tasks of the continuous production of plastic products. The focus is on process and system optimization for various manufacturing processes. Both in publicly funded research projects and in bilateral industrial projects, the scientific staff develops solutions to make the processes more efficient and resource-saving.

A particular focus is on computer-aided modeling of the entire process chain. In addition to the virtual modeling of plasticizing processes, numerical analysis and optimization of (co-)extrusion dies and the tube forming process of both blown film extrusion lines on a pilot and industrial scale are carried out. Through the realistic mapping of all phenomena specific to the subareas, process understanding is built up and practical solutions are worked out.
