Health insurance (Krankenversicherung)
Pre-requisite for enrolment at UDE is that you are covered by a health insurance.
You can remain with the health insurance in your home country.
1.Ask your health insurance provider to issue a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for you.
2.Present the EHIC to a German health insurance provider. The health insurance provider issues a statement for you to prove that you are exempted.
3.Hand in the exemption statement to UDE on the occasion of your enrolment.
If you prefer to contract a German health insurance provider, please consult the information for "Non-EU nationals".
You need to join a German health insurance provider. Most providers offer reduced rates for students under the age of 30 (monthly fee ca. 90 €).
You will receive a health insurance card from your provider which you are obliged to bring to any consultation with a general practitioner/ doctor.
Language course attendees
You must have a private (travel) health insurance from a German provider (valid until 30th September for the summer semester or 31st March for the winter semester).
After you passed the DSH and enroll in your degree course, you can switch from a private to a public health insurance company. Please note that you can only switch at the same time as you enroll in your degree course.EU nationals bring the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) and follow the procedure as described above.
You are free to choose among the health insurance providers. You can find information on public health insurance providers (Gesetzliche Krankenkassen) under: http://www.krankenkasseninfo.de
