MPCMill Process Calculations

Mill Process Calculations (MPC) is a software tool for simulation, design and optimization on roll pass designs for wire rod and bar mills. It has been developed at our research group since 1996. MPC allows the generation and analysis of pass designs for a variety of section types. The features include, but are not limited to:

  • Round with single, double and triple radius ovals
  • Square with opened and non-opened diamonds
  • Hexagon sections
  • Pass Designs of Three-Roll Rolling Blocks
  • Pass Design of wire rod finishing blocks with fixed gear systems
  • Calculation of interstand tensions from given rotational speeds
  • Calculation of the temperature profile of rolling mills with given mill layouts

We use MPC in teaching and in industrial training seminars. If you are interested in a training seminar on long product rolling including pass design, please contact Dr. Christian Overhagen.

An overview of MPC was presented at the 12th International Rolling Conference in Trieste, Italy (2022).
