Qualification Goals
The goal of the Masters programs (“Sustainable Urban Technologies” and “Urban Culture, Society, and Space”) is to educate future experts for urban developments and projects who are able to effectively communicate and take action. Our interdisciplinary expert profile is to be implemented through two discreet courses of study, which are nevertheless integrated in terms of content and subject matter; this means that there are significant overlaps between the two programs, one focusing on engineering, urban planning and design and the other on the humanities, social sciences and education. This dual approach is rooted in acknowledgement of the importance of specialization in particular fields despite the necessity of promoting interdisciplinary qualifications. Nevertheless, students of both courses will be exposed to a cross section of urban challenges in core requirement courses in the Integrative Modules. Further, the interdisciplinary Complementary Modules provide students deeper insights into the concerns and methodologies of other disciplines.
Summary of the key qualification goals of both Masters programs:
- The ability to take on high levels of responsibility and work productively on complex urban projects
- The ability to analyze, assess, communicate and solve complex urban problems
- Interdisciplinary competencies, i.e. the ability to acquire, understand and use various terminologies/codes of particular disciplines
- Organization of cross-sectional communication with authorities and companies
- Moderation of communications and decision-making processes in formal and informal planning projects
- The ability to consult individuals, businesses, corporate bodies, etc. on urban projects
- The ability to explore complex urban problems with a focus on either engineering and natural sciences or from the perspective of the humanities, social and educational sciences
