Incoming ERASMUS students at the physics department

Application

To participate in the Erasmus programme and spend some time at the Faculty of Physics in Duisburg, you must apply at your home university. Your home university will select and nominate you. After that, the International Office of the University of Duisburg-Essen will contact you and inform you about the following procedure. Further information is given here. Lectures

Erasmus student can attend all lectures, seminars and laboratory classes, that are offered at the Faculty of Physics. You can find the course catalogue at https://campus.uni-due.de/. Information and details about the courses, e.g. the ECTS-Credits that will be awarded, can be found in the most recent version of the “Modulhandbuch” (https://www.uni-due.de/physik/studium/). There is a selection of classes offered in English language.

Changes in the learning agreement are possible within five weeks after the start of the semester. Please contact the Erasmus coordinators.

Language Classes

The Institute for Optional Studies of the university offers a wide range of German language courses during the semester for students interested in improving their German (https://www.uni-due.de/ios/).

The Studierendenwerk Essen-Duisburg (a student welfare services organisation) organises a Language Café: https://www.stw-edu.de/en/culture/cafe-lingua/

Life in Duisburg

Housing:

You will need to find a room for you stay. You can either look for private accommodation or apply for a place in the student residence halls.

The student residence halls are administered by the Studierendenwerk. The department of Physics is in Duisburg; thus, you should apply for a room in Duisburg. Please apply once you receive the letter of acceptance. Early application is strongly recommended. Orientation days:

At the beginning of each semester the International Office organises orientation days for new exchange students. You will be introduced to your new environment, the city and the university. You will receive information about the orientation days with the letter of acceptance.

Buddy Programme:

There is a buddy programme available for international students.
