BinGas – Development of technologies for the transport of LNG on inland navigation vessels: tank – propulsion - ship

The joint project “BinGas” deals with the development of technologies for the transport of LNG on inland navigation vessels. Eleven private-industry and research partners are involved.

The liquefaction of Natural Gas (LNG) is, other than that of e.g. LPG, a cryogenic process. The transportation of LNG at atmospheric pressure is conducted at temperatures below minus 161°C. During transport, a small amount of heat is transferred into the tanks. This leads either to vaporization of a partial amount of liquid gas (Boil-Off-Gas, BOG) or a rise in temperature, along with a pressure and volume increase.

These characteristics of LNG require special technologies for the transportation of LNG on board of inland going vessels.
