Our consultation services

Career Service

Students and graduates have all kinds of questions about work placements, job applications and starting their career. Our Career Service is the right place to get answers. We offer one-to-one consultation sessions where we support you in focusing your career goals, optimising your path and preparing for your future career.

By appointmentIndividual consultation sessions

You can arrange an appointment with us from Monday to Friday. The sessions can be held in person, by phone or via Zoom, depending on availability and preference. The guidelines governing the services we provide to students and graduates are described in our Statement of Service (German/English).

If the services you would like us to provide include checking your application package, just attach your CV, cover letter and – if available – the job advertisement you would like to respond to (as Word or PDF files) when you send us your email.

Open consultation hours: Zoom and in-person consultation hours 

We offer open consultation hours via Zoom on Mondays (3–5 pm). You will find the link to the open consultation hours here.

Our in-person open consultation hours on the Duisburg campus are held on Thursdays from 2 to 4 pm in room SG 086.

Our in-person open consultation hours on the Essen campus are held on Wednesdays from 11 am to 1 pm in room T02 S00 L08.

 

Our faculty-specific in-person consultation hours 

For Physics and Engineering:
7–21 January, Wednesdays from 10 am–noon, MA 266

For business and economics-related programmes and Social Sciences:
7–21 January, Wednesdays from 2–4 pm, LB 054

General information about online consultations:

You can take part in the online sessions via your browser (Chrome, Firefox and Safari) without installing any other software. For the online consultations, please note the University of Duisburg-Essen’s Privacy Policy.

  • You must enter your real name as your screen name.
  • Please prepare for the consultation and write down your main questions, if you have any, in advance.
  • Please turn on your camera and microphone and, ideally, use a headset.
  • If you do not have a camera, you can also use our consultation services via email or phone. Please understand that if your camera is off, we will also deactivate our camera.

The Duisburg and Essen employment agencies offer regular consultation hours:

  • on the Duisburg  campus (room SG 028)
    Tue. 9 am–12 noon
  • on the Essen  campus (room T02 S00 L01)
