Born in London (UK), Susan gradually moved further South West with her family and spent her teenage years in Cornwall. Interested in languages from an early age, she decided to take a gap year after school and came to Germany as an au-pair. A trip which was planned for a year has to date lasted over 35 years and counting!
Susan has a grown-up daughter and was recently delighted to become a grandma. To relax she likes to read, listen to music, watch films, do jigsaw puzzles, work in the garden or go sailing. She regularly practises yoga and loves to dance.
Susan has taught numerous undergraduate and graduate courses in English Linguistics and English as a Foreign Language at Düsseldorf University. She's also taught English (from A1 to C2) at the VHS Düsseldorf, IHK Düsseldorf, and for the Higher Regional Court in Düsseldorf. To round things off, she also has experience outside teaching, working for a number of international companies in the region.
She has a Magister in General Linguistics and English, and a PhD in English Linguistics, both from the University of Düsseldorf. Thesis title: Multilingualism, L1 attrition and the concept of "native speaker". She's also a trained commercial (IHK) translator for English.
