Empathy in Foreign Aid

INEF Research Meeting with Stephen Brown

On 28 October, Prof. Stephen Brown will join the INEF Research Meeting for a talk titled “Unfeeling States? Foreign Aid, Racialized Emotions and the Death of Empathy”. The event will take place from 12:15 to 13:45 in Room LS 105 on the Duisburg Campus. A Professor at the School of Political Studies at the University of Ottawa, Prof. Brown is currently a Senior Fellow at the College for Social Sciences and Humanities of the University Alliance Ruhr. Drawing on his research, Prof. Brown will examine how empathy influences international development policy - and how racialized emotions shape whose suffering is seen, acknowledged, and deemed worthy of support. The talk is open to students and the interested public.
