The consortium aims to use the synergistic effects of gold nanoparticles and proton irradiation in the treatment of childhood brain tumors. This is to be optimized preclinically and developed for clinical validation. A successful establishment of this combinatorial therapy approach (state-of-the-art proton therapy + gold nanoparticles) can contribute to a significant increase in the effectiveness of proton therapy. This will result in shorter radiation times, allowing a larger number of children with cancer to have access to this life-saving therapy.
