Ch@nge Ruhr: A Future hub for SMEs in the Ruhr area – supporting work-oriented design in digital transformation processes

Presently, companies have to deal with a variety of challenges during the implementation of digitalization processes. Both company concerns and requirements (e.g. competitiveness, innovation potential) as well as the interests and demands of employees for 'good work' must be taken into account in order to make digitization sustainable and socially innovative. However, SMEs often have only limited capacities and resources for such a comprehensive, holistic implementation of digitalization processes.

This is where the "Ch@nge Ruhr" project comes in: The aim is to strengthen the resources and competences of SMEs to foster a work- and employment-oriented implementation of digitization processes in regional companies. To this end, existing expertise and competences in the Ruhr region need to be increasingly bundled and made accessible to SMEs in a future hub. In close cooperation with consultants and multipliers and rooted in practice-oriented research results of labour science, social partnership in consulting and transfer concepts will be further developed, taking into account the practical challenges and support needs of SMEs. Learning journeys and the presentation of successful transformation stories will be offered in order to make digital technologies and transformation processes directly tangible for SMEs in a practical way.

The project is jointly processed by the Institute for Work and Technology (IAT; doing the coordination), the Office of Cooperation RUB/IG Metall and the Social Research Centre (sfs) of the TU Dortmund University. It focuses on different sectors (industry/production, logistics, health). As a project partner, the IAQ is processing on industry/production sector.
