Project Information

Joint project: competence center HUMAINE - transfer-Hub of Ruhr metropolis for human-centered AI work (HUMAINE). Subproject: Proactive Work design and innovative forms of participation in AI applications

Initial situation

We find ourselves in a field of tension, created by developments in artificial intelligence (AI). If AI is taking work away from us, is it taking work away from us or is it making work easier? We want to actively walk this crossroads: With innovative methods at the interface between AI development and AI use and validation on practical pilot applications in the healthcare industry and industrial SMEs, we create an improvement in working and living conditions.

Project goals

In the HUMAINE research project, methods of technical AI development, AI organizational development and AI role and personnel development for the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in work processes are being developed and tested. Synergies are being exploited and successive multipliers for applications in other industries are being integrated.

The IAQ subproject pursues the scientific goal of developing proactive process models for comprehensive participation in processes of developing, implementing and controlling learning systems. This is done on the basis of the concept of proactive work design (Anlauft et al, 2019) with its fields of action of securing employment, designing work in a way that promotes learning and health, forward-looking qualification, and ensuring personal protection through the sparing use of data.

Subproject tasks

  • Development and evaluation of a procedure model of proactive work design in operational implementation cases
  • Raising awareness and building collective design competencies among developers and decision-makers (for example, managers, stakeholders, users)
  • Development of recommendations for AI developers and decision-makers for the fair and proactive design of AI implementation processes.
