Am Dienstag, den 27. Oktober 2026 feiert das Institut mit „Hello, Good-bye & Welcome Back“ seine Studierenden: die neuen Erstsemester, diejenigen, die ihren Abschluss gemacht haben, und alle, die nach ihrem Auslandsjahr in Ostasien wieder zurück an der UDE sind.

On Tuesday, October 27, 2026, the Institute honores its new students, the graduates, and those who have returned after a year in East Asia: “Hello, Good-Bye & Welcome Back”.

The IN-EAST welcomes a new generation of MA students in the study programs of Contemporary East Asian Studies CEAS and Modern East Asian Studies MEAS.

The Orientation Weeks are designed to ensure that all students have a smooth start into their studies and are able to familiarize themselves with the IN-EAST and the university.

Abstract
The presentation traces China?Europe cooperation from the ancient Silk Road to today’s strategic partnership. It highlights four phases of EU–China relations, current tensions shaped by US rivalry, and shifting EU perceptions of China. Despite frictions, shared interests in multilateralism, green technologies, and climate governance offer strong prospects for renewed collaboration, with spillover benefits for global sustainability and third?country investment.

Yuan Li is the Vice Dean of the Institute of International Studies, and Professor of the School of Northeast Asia Studies, Shandong University, Weihai. He was Acting Professor at the IN-EAST in 2014–2020.
