Abstract
Nowadays, there are already several studies that have shown that serious games can have a positive effect on learning behaviour. However, even with serious games there is often a problem, namely maintaining motivation over a long period of time. This thesis deals with exactly this problem and a potential solution to it. To this end, a literature review is first used to work out how people are motivated in general and in video games. The Self-Determination Theory is analysed in more detail. Reward systems and their forms of presentation are also analysed more closely from this perspective. Based on this, concepts for various reward systems are created, which are then integrated into an existing VR learning environment. The implementation of these concepts should increase the long-term motivation of the players and thus make the VR game more effective.
