Chemnitz Finite Element Symposium 2025  -  On Tour

From September 15-17, 2025, the 38th Chemnitz FE Symposium took place at the Katholische Akademie Die Wolfsburg. The FE Symposium is one of the oldest and best-known conference series in numerical mathematics.
The first symposium was held in 1978 in Karl-Marx-Stadt (now Chemnitz).

In addition to renowned guest speakers on annually selected current topics, the FE Symposium is aimed in particular at young researchers and doctoral students, offering them a friendly atmosphere and opportunities to exchange ideas with more established colleagues. Since 2017, the venue and local organization of the FE Symposium have alternated between its home town of Chemnitz and the institution of one of the members of its Scientific Committee.
This year's FE Symposium took place for the second time since 2019 at the Wolfsburg in Mülheim an der Ruhr and was organized in the usual perfect manner by a team led by Nicole Obszanski. We received active support by Max Winkler from Chemnitz. The invited lectures were given by Konstantinos Chrysafinos (Athens), Ira Neitzel (Bonn), and Christian Kreuzer (Dortmund).

Another highlight was the pre-dinner talk on the occasion of Arnd Rösch's 60th birthday, which was presented jointly by Thomas Apel (Munich), Roland Herzog (Heidelberg), Sven Knoth (Hamburg), and Fredi Tröltzsch (Berlin).

On this occasion, a special issue of Mathematical Control and Related Fields (MCRF) was also presented, to which several working groups from our faculty contributed.

The prize for the best presentation by a doctoral student went to Felix Beer (UDE).

The next FE Symposium will take place in Chemnitz from September 7 to 9, 2026.
