Faculty of Mathematics of the University of Duisburg-Essen
On a regular basis the Faculty of Mathematics of the University of Duisburg-Essen can be found in nationwide research rankings in the top bracket among mathematics faculties putting a strong emphasis on research. (CHE-Research Ranking, DFG-Fund Ranking). Our faculty reached number 15 among all mathematics departments in Germany in the DFG-Förderatlas 2018.
This was confirmed in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (Shanghai Ranking) 2018 by a position among the 101-150 best Mathematics Departments worldwide. At the same time, Mathematics at UDE ranks among the top eight in Germany.
From September 9th to September 11th the FEM Symposium 2019 will be held at the Wolfsburg in Mühlheim an der Ruhr. This year's symposium is hosted by the University of Duisburg-Essen.
Mathematician and UDE Professor Dr. Marc Levine is receiving one of the much sought-after ERC Advanced Grants. With these grants the European Research Council is supporting groundbreaking and visionary research. 2.1 Million euros are going to Levine – him being a leading expert worldwide in the field of algebraic geometry – , so that he is able to realize his project over the coming five years. It is called QUADAG – Quadratic refinements in algebraic geometry.
UDE mathematician Prof. Rüdiger Schultz received the 2019 science award of the "Gesellschaft für Operations Research" (GOR) for his contributions to the field of stochastic optimization.
