Harald Krähe (b. 1960) studied cartography at the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences; his thesis involved creating a city map of Hong Kong for Nelles Verlag in Munich. After four years at the small map publisher Terrac in Essen-Kettwig, he joined the Institute of Geography at the University of Duisburg (renamed the University of Duisburg-Essen in 2003) in 1993, and then moved to the Institute of East Asian Studies in 2008, where he is responsible for all graphic design work.
