Was ist Service Learning?
Service-Learning ist eine Seminarform, bei der fachliches Lernen mit projektartigem Handeln in gemeinnützigen Kontexten verbunden wird. Dabei übernehmen die Lernenden eine bestimmte zeitlich begrenzte gemeinnützige soziale, ökologische oder kulturelle Aufgabe, die mit gemeinnützigen Partnern vorher als dienlich identifiziert wurde.
Astin u.a. beschreiben Service-Learning recht anschaulich: "Service-Learning represents a potentially powerful form of pedagogy because it provides a means of linking the academic with the practical. The more abstract and theoretical material of the traditional classroom takes on new meaning as the student 'tries it out', so to speak, in the ,real' world. At the same time, the student benefits from the oportunity to connect the service experience to the intellectual content of the classroom. By emphazising cooperation, democrativ citizenship and moral responsability through service learning, higher education connects to the wider community and prepares students to meet society's urgent needs." Angeregt durch das UNIAKTIV Zentrum für gesellschaftliches Lernen und soziale Verantwortung setze ich Service-Learning seit 2010 in meiner Lehre ein.
