Research Centres

The research centre ACTIVE SITES was set up as a platform for scientists with shared research interests relating to the interdisciplinary development of methods for characterizing active sites in an aqueous functional environment.

CeNIDE, the Center for Nanointegration Duisburg-Essen, was founded in 2005 by members of the Faculties of Physics, Chemistry, and Engineering as a network for the many nano-activities at the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE).

The research network  NETZ focuses on the development of processes for the synthesis, functionalisation and processing of nanoparticulate materials in order to tap into applications in energy technology.

With the Interdisziplinären Zentrum für Bildungsforschung (Interdisciplinary Centre for Educational Research), established in 2016, scholars from all areas of educational research have a platform for discussing shared issues jointly and launching collaborations.

The Zentrum für Medizinische Biotechnologie (ZMB) (Centre for Medical Biotechnology, ZMB) is an interdisciplinary scientific centre at the University of Duisburg-Essen, which integrates medical research at the university hospital and the natural sciences on campus.

The Zentrum für Wasser- und Umweltforschung (ZWU) (Centre for Water and Environmental Research, ZWU) is an interdisciplinary and cross-departmental research centre at the University of Duisburg-Essen. It has existed since 2003 when it was founded under the name “Zentrum für Mikroskalige Umweltsysteme” (Centre for Microscale Environmental Systems, ZMU). With its focus on the topics of water and man and the environment, the ZWU serves the profile focus of urban systems and bundles the experience and resources of scientists working in environmental research.
