05.03.2024Practical courses at ICAN

Over the last few weeks, three practical groups from the Faculty of Physics have successfully completed experiment 1.17 "Scanning electron microscopy and spectroscopy" at ICAN.

After an antestat, the students spent a day at the Scanning Auger Microscope of the ICAN and were able to investigate basic effects of image formation in scanning electron microscopy.

In addition, Auger spectroscopy and ion etching were used to investigate the change in the gold to iron ratio of a single AuFe-CoreShell nanoparticle as a function of the ablation depth of a few nm.

In addition to these experiments, a student of the GyGe teaching programme was able to familiarise himself with the work and techniques of the ICAN during a two-week laboratory internship and successfully apply them himself.
