XPS user meeting 2024
An XPS-specific user meeting with Dr Ulrich Hagemann will take place on Tuesday, 12 March 2024 from 10:00 a.m. in the NETZ research building.
Take the opportunity to discuss all topics, problems and questions relating to XPS that have arisen in the past.
In addition, Dr Sven Reichenberger will present his experiences with the device and in particular report on sample cleaning/preparation etc., which are necessary for good results.
Please register for this meeting directly to Mr Hagemann: ulrich.hagemann[at]uni-due.de
Practical courses at ICAN
For the first time, physics students were able to take part in a practical course at ICAN.
Experiment 1.17 "Scanning electron microscopy and spectroscopy", led by Dr Ulrich Hagemann, was a complete success for all three practical groups and a valuable event as part of their studies.
ICAN user meeting 2024
The annual ICAN user meeting took place again in 2024.
We would like to thank everyone for attending and look forward to being able to offer our services to our users again this year.
The next user meeting will take place at the beginning of 2025.
The DFG-funded Core Facility ICAN at the university of Duisburg-Essen combines machines, methods and scientific expertise for analysis on the nanometer scale. Fundamental scientific research supports application-oriented development of new materials and devices. A large selection of analytical methods is needed to optimize the fabrication and structure of these materials. Only in this way it is possible to produce specifically tailored devices with highly defined properties. To this end a combination of exceptional analytical tools and expertise is necessary.
ICAN enables the scientific groups of the university of Duisburg-Essen and their collaborators to have their samples analysed by the best suitable methods: characterization encompasses static snap-shots of the material structure as well as time-resolved imaging of processes, which are important for material synthesis and functionality.
The measurements include in-situ and ex-situ methods and can be made on modell-systems as well as in real technical environments.
For this purpose we use highly speciallized machines, which would not only exceed the financial capacities of single projects or groups, but also the needed technical know-how for planning and realization of the analysis. The machines are available for all users, after proper training and introduction. In addition the ICAN team will advise to choose the correct method for your question, perform the measurement and help with the interpretation of the obtained results.
The core of ICAN is the microscopy center in the NanoEnergieTechnikZentrum (NETZ) in Duisburg. With brand new laboratories, specially designed for the newest machines, the microsopy center is perfectly equipped for the most sensitive measurements down the atomic length scale.
