​A focus of Prof. Enkel's research is open innovation processes. She is convinced that real innovations that sustainably change a market are rarely achieved by just one company and within one industry. As part of her open innovation work, she brings together mobility companies with start-ups, technology partners from other industries and research institutions in order to jointly develop new business models.

Another focus of Ellen Enkel’s work is digital business models. In the past, the mobility industry was characterized by technological and market developments that were more predictable and therefore predictable. Now competitors from other industries, such as the much faster IT and service industries, are entering the market and threatening the business models of the established market participants. With her work here at the chair, Prof. Enkel would like to support mobility companies in the development of digital business models.
