Systematic Analytic Philosophy in the Ruhr-Area (SAPHIR) – Communication and Internationalization
Cooperation Project - TU-Dortmund, RUB and UDE
Systematic Analytic Philosophy in the Ruhr-Area (SAPHIR) – Communication and Internationalization
The project aims to establish structures in which philosophical research on interdisciplinary topics can be presented to students and the public. The integration of fellows is intended to benefit students in particular. The topics are linked to many collaborative projects and are also at the heart of the Research Alliance Ruhr's Excellence Strategy. Since their central research questions touch on our understanding of humanity, we emphasize a philosophical examination of various facets of fundamental anthropological questions ("What is a human being? How do we perceive ourselves as human beings?"). To this end, we will draw on local expertise on the one hand, and give international researchers the opportunity to present their research findings at Ruhr universities and contribute to public discourse on the other. During the project, the primary focus will be on topics in the philosophy of science of AI and the philosophy of mind and cognition. While the philosophy of science reflects scientific research and, above all, currently the challenges of AI, the perspectives of the philosophy of mind and cognition provide excellent links to medical, neuroscientific, and psychological research. With this focus, the purely humanities-based discussions at the Research College Ruhr will be complemented by philosophical bridging topics that connect philosophy with AI, psychology, computer science, neuroscience, and medicine.
