Incoming Students ERASMUS

Application

Once you have been selected and nominated by your home university you have to apply at the International Office of the University Duisburg-Essen. You find further information and the application form here. Please contact also the ERASMUS-departmental coordinator Ms. Maj-Britt Behrens.

Housing

Please note that the University itself does not run any halls of residence. The student residence halls are administered by the Studentenwerk (a student welfare services organisation). As an ERASMUS-student you can apply at the Studentenwerk of the University Duisburg-Essen for a room in a student hall of residence. The Studentenwerk runs 15 halls of residence in Duisburg and Essen. Most of the rooms are furnished and the rent includes electricity, water and heating.

A timely application is absolutely necessary in order to reserve a room!

We strongly recommend to make your accommodation arrangements in advance. Please use the online application form for your room reservation.

On the application form you can choose whether you want to apply for a room in Duisburg or Essen. As nearly all courses of the Institute of Political Science - apart from teacher training courses - are taught in Duisburg we recommend to opt for a room in Duisburg. Please indicate on the application form that you are an ERASMUS-student.

The UDE's International Office recommends that ERASMUS students should not make any room reservations until they have received the letter of acceptance from the University.

Language

An ERASMUS-stay in Germany is an excellent opportunity to improve your language skills. The University Duisburg-Essen offers a wide range of german language courses. Most of them are free of charge. Further more you can participate in the language tandem program.
The International Office will provide you on time with further information on language courses. Please note that most of the courses at the Institute of Political Science are held in German. However, the Institute of Political Science offers some courses in English each semester in its BA and MA programs.
