A problem for all natural science faculties and, in particular, the University of Duisburg, is a lack of students. Together with the Department of Instrumental Analysis, an international Bachelor/Masters-Curriculum Water Science was developed. This curriculum met an unexpected demand: for the first semester, more than 70 students enrolled. Obviously, the immediate importance of the topic "water" and the concept of interdisciplinary connection between theory and practice proved to be the most attractive factors. As all scientific directors of the IWW Centre for Water are involved in the curriculum, the connection to practice is provided. After successful completion of the curriculum, interested students have the opportunity to commence a Ph.D. programme in different water-related areas.
