Protein Measurements in Activated Sludge

Protein Measurements in Activated Sludge

This project uses protein measurement to analyse the changes in the biology of activated sludge system. For this purpose, a 21 L lab-scale activated sludge plant is operated under varying operational conditions for example by varying the sludge age and the substrate conditions.

Total protein and EPS of activated sludge are measured and compared with different physical parameters such as sludge volume index and sludge activity (measured by respiration) to evaluate if EPS and/or total protein concentration are suitable to be used as a monitoring tool of the system. LC MS/MS is also performed to get detailed information about the protein changes and the proteins themself.
